Welcome! Friday, June 13th

Thank you for visiting! I hope to see you and your kids dancing and singing along to some Music in the Park this Friday. If you haven't visited my website yet, please do at www.musicwithheather.weebly.com for more information on the classes and piano lessons I offer.

Friday, June 13: Bluegrass week!!

Since Friday is the kickoff to the Golden Music Festival, I figured what better style of music to introduce than Bluegrass?! Bluegrass is a style of acoustic music typically including string instruments like the fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and stand up bass. You may also hear some fun instruments like the harmonica or washboard.

Local musician and pre-kindergarten teacher Alyssa Veith has offered to gather a group of pickers to introduce their instruments and play for us in the park. The preschool class will take place at 10:00 am this week where I will introduce some of these instruments along with our normal music routine. Our demonstration will last from approximately 10:30-11:00 am combining both the preschool and 2 & under age groups. This gives us another 15-20 minutes at 11:00 am to complete the 2 & under age group class. We will continue to talk about bluegrass and dance to our normal music class routine.

LAST WEEK
Last week was our first week together. It was a great trial and we are ready to take on more kids! We learned all about the guitar: how it is played, the parts, and how to tune it. Both age groups explored loud and soft sounds. The preschoolers even learned the music terms forte, mezzo forte, and piano. We had a lot of fun demonstrating this with "Hakuna Matata"! We also introduced the quarter note and how to count it. Here are some pictures from the very first Music in the Park!
