August 1: A Music in the Park Thank You!

Thank you all so much for making this summer possible!

Please join us Friday for a special demonstration and small performance from local musicians Warren Kennison and Jackson Earles. Maybe even a few more.

Regular class starts at 10:00 am for all ages with singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Then we will introduce and demonstrate the guitar, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle. The kids will have a chance to get hands on as well.

Our demonstrators will play a small performance for us while we sing and dance along. I'll provide healthy snacks as well.

If you can, please let me know that you are planning to attend. Last minute joiners are welcome too! An approximate headcount will helps me plan accordingly.

July 25: Percussion!

We had so much fun with a drumming theme before I think we should bring some percussion instruments back into the picture. From drums to buckets, pots, pans, even the park equipment, we will make some Music in the Park this week!

We will stick with the regular class times:

10:00: Ages 3 & up
10:30: Ages 2 & under

New Loveland Mine Park
1309 5th Street in Golden, CO 80403

$5 per child is the suggested donation

I hope to see you all this Friday for Music in the Park!

Last week we had a blast learning about the mandolin. Check out our pictures below!

July 18: The Mandolin

Join us this Friday as we further explore the mandolin with Jackson Earles, an amazing 11 year old fiddle and mandolin player.

We'll talk more about the string instruments again and focus on the mandolin with Jackson. He would love to tell us more about this instrument, his practicing techniques, and even sing along with some songs. I will bring my mandolin as well. I don't know how to play, but Jackson wants to teach me! At the end the kids will get a chance to play the mandolin strings themselves.

I'm so excited for the opportunity to bring young musicians to this class. Kids see adults on stage all the time, on TV or in pictures. It's great to show them that not only adults know how to make music from these wonderful instruments, and that they're not far off from learning how to play one themselves.

The demonstration will take place between the older and younger age groups in order for everyone to take part.
Ages 3 & up: 10:00 - 10:45
Ages 2 & under: 10:20 - 11:10
The demonstration will start around 10:30 to include both age groups. Please arrive by 10:20 and grab a seat on the picnic blankets. Everyone is welcome!

Check out the fun we had last week exploring the piano! In case you missed it, check out my previous post with links to how the inside of a piano works!

How does the piano work?

Last week we talked about the inside of a piano and why it can be classified as both a string and a percussion instrument.

Here are a couple videos below to example how the hammers work on the strings.

Below is an example of difference scales, chords, and even the glissando which we all had a chance to play last week!

Piano! July 11 Music in the Park

Join us Friday in the park as we explore my favorite instrument: the piano! I've played piano for over 20 years and credit my love for music and ability to play other instruments to learning piano at a young age. I'm really excited to teach everyone all about it!

We'll talk about different types of pianos, the keys and the strings, playing scales, and of course the kids will get a chance to play. I'll be demonstrating for both classes separately so we will do 2 regular 30 minute classes.

10:00-10:30: Ages 3 & up
10:40-11:10: Ages 2 & under
